What A Year

It’s hard to believe but this Friday is the 20th and final week of the 2021 CSA season! I want to thank all of the wonderful people who have been on this wild ride with me. This was the very first year of Dirty Knees Farm CSA and it could not have happened without the support of our amazing community. I am already planning and day dreaming of next spring and everything that I want to grow and share with you all next season.

Last week I introduced pea tendrils to the CSA. Pea tendrils are the tender tip of snow pea vines and have the same sweet refreshing flavor as the pea pods. I like to add pea tendrils to salad, sandwiches and to snack on their own. If you add them to stir fry or sauteed just make sure to add them at the very end of cooking so they keep their fresh flavor.

Since this is the last pick up I wanted to give you something that will last a bit longer then what you normally get each week. So this week you are getting two bunches of herbs that are specifically for drying and a garlic braid!

One herb bundle is a mix of my favorite tea herbs from the farm. It is a mix of Pineapple sage, mint, lemon verbeana, and citrus basil. This blend has a bright citrus flavor and is perfect for cold gray winter days. The other bundle is a savory blend of sage, rosemary, thyme, marjoram, and oregano. Use this blend for roasted meat with root veggies, hearty soups and stocks, or herbed breads and other baked goods.

I am so excited to be able to give everyone a garlic braid! Each garlic braid has a loop on the back so you can hang it up in your kitchen for easy use all winter in in your favorite dishes. Garlic has a naturally long shelf life, so your braid should last well in to January, that is if you don’t use it up before then!

If you are as excited for spring as i am make sure to sign up for the early season six week blooms and greens CSA! This shorter CSA will happen before the main season CSA next year and will feature heirloom narssicus, and fresh salad greens, a welcome treat after a New England winter, And be sure to follow the farm on Facebook and Instagram for updates all winter and so you can be the first to know when CSA shares are availible for next summer!

Thank you for an amazing season, see you all on Friday,

-Farmer Sharon
