My favorite place to be is outside in the garden. Let me show you my world.

Our Story

Hi - Sharon here, owner of Dirty Knees Heritage Farm. We’re excited to start this journey with you.

I love growing unusual, heritage varieties you can’t find anywhere else. Ever hear of a gilfeather? It makes an excellent substitute for mashed potatoes. I love teaching people about growing and how to use biodiversity to explore the world around us.

Over the last 14 years I have had the opportunity to learn from some truly exceptional farms in Southeastern CT that showed me how diverse the world of vegetables really is. Having my hands in the soil for so long has given me the opportunity to try many different styles, methods, techniques, and varieties. This means I can provide the very best selection of produce for you to enjoy.

In 2022 My husband Matt and I got married and he has been by my side in this wonderful adventure. When Matt is not at the farm he is working on diesel engines and running machinery. He and I work as a team to continually experiment and improve the farm.

About Our Farm

Dirty Knees is a working farm in Uncasville, CT. We partner with local stores, restaurants, boutique hospitality, and individuals to provide hard to find heritage-variety produce and flowers. We offer CSA memberships, wholesale orders, and individual sales.

Although we are not a certified organic farm, we are careful not to use any chemicals or pesticides. Our growing methods are based in permaculture principals, maintaining a harmonious balance with the land.

We value community, education, and inclusivity. As we grow, look for workshops, family-friendly activities, and a blog with tips and information on how to use your produce.
