Spring is in the Air

This week there are many new delicious spring veggies to explore as well as an announcement. Starting this week there will be monthly subscription boxes available here on the website. These boxes will contain the same amount as the CSA shares but you are able to pay for one month (four weeks) at a time. Now I have been so excited all week to share these new greens with you, I hope you enjoy them as much as I do let’s jump in!

The salad greens this week are Asian salad mix! The Asian salad mix has a slightly spicy flavor that I love to pair with craisins, candied nuts and creamy salad dressing. It is also good for cooking, salad in a jar, or adding to sandwiches . The greens in this mix include mustard greens like mizuna and ruby streaks and also has more familiar salad ingredients such as arugula.

Hosta shoots are an unexpected spring delicacy but are sure to quickly become a favorite. Hosta shoots are traditional Japanese food that has the flavor of asparagus but the texture is closer to lettuce. They are amazing eaten raw or cooked, try them in stir fry, sauteed on their own or even fried as tempura!

This week there are also garlic chives and edible forsythia! Garlic chives are similar to the chives you might find at the store except they a bit thicker and flat rather than rounded. As the name suggests garlic chives flavor is closer to a garlic then common chives. Use for all the same spring foods like eggs, in compound butter, or sprinkle on a salad.

Last but not least is edible forsythia! Forsythia is the edible flower of the week and it is a cheery bright yellow that will make any dish you add it to pop! Originally from China, forsythia has become a welcome sign of spring here in the states.

See you on Friday!
