So Many Seeds

Earlier this season we had a furry friend make their way into the greenhouse and help themselves to as many seeds and baby plants as they could eat. Needless to say this caused some significant damage, and we spent the better part of April trying to figure out how to protect our seedlings.

Now that we have seemed to evict our unwelcomed guest it is time to catch up on all the seeding! This includes all the scheduled seeding for the month of April, as well as re-seeding and damage control that needed to be done. In the past few days we have seeded over 30 trays full of everything from Basil to lettuce, zinnias and cucumbers.

It is wild to think that this Friday will be the fourth pick up in the “blooms and greens” CSA! So far this has been an amazing spring full of fragrant bouquets, tasty salad greens and so much more. That being said we are also only a few weeks away from the start of the main season CSA! Make sure to sign up for a full or half share so you can keep getting fresh local produce every week.

We also have our first monthly subscription box available. the subscription box is a great choice if you won’t be in town for the whole season but still want all the perks of being apart of the CSA. Both options can be found in our online store.

Last but by no means least this week we have ramps! Ramps are related to onions and have an amazing unique flavor that is one of my favorite spring treats. Ramps are an extra special spring crop because they have to be harvested very carefully from wild patches because they can not be grown in a field like most other vegetables.

All parts of the ramp plant are edible and very tasty. Try blending the greens to make a pesto, enjoy chopped finely in a salad or wrap. The bulbs are wonderful added to pasta dishes with asparagus, or really in anything you add onions to!

See you on Friday!
