So many Plants
This week we are in the last big planting wave! Right now flats of tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, basil, marigolds, and more are being tucked into their beds. This summer is shaping up to be full to the brim with all kinds of heirloom goodies, I am particularly excited for striped tomatoes, refreshing cucumbers and intoxicating basil.
This week we have two new items, garlic scapes and Tokyo bekana! Garlic scapes are the curly top of the garlic plant, if left alone they become garlic flowers. Garlic scapes have a bright garlic flavor that is wonderful raw or cooked. Try adding them to anything you would normally add garlic to, like potato salad, stir fry, or even as a pesto!
Tokyo bekana is a mild Asian green with beautiful bight ruffled leaves. Tokyo bekana’s mild flavor makes it the perfect salad ingredient, but it is also great steamed or stir fried!
See you on Friday!
