Puddle Jumping
This week the weather was decidedly damp. Although cool rainy days are not the best for picnics the garden was in all it’s glory. After weeks of sunny skies the whole garden seemed to breathe a sigh of relief with a much needed soak. The lettuce especially shone with it’s crunchy sweet leaves. It always blows my mind when I do my rounds in the morning and I can see how much the plants have grown since the day before.
This week in your share you will be getting a lovely bunch of collards. Maybe most well known as a traditional southern side dish collards have many other applications. One of my favorite ways to cook collards it to chop them very finely , saute in a little olive oil and add them into soup. With their sweet flavor and tender texture collards lend themselves to many different flavor combos, try them spicy loaded with garlic and hot sauce or go for a Asian inspired stir fry with ginger and soy sauce.
For our half shares that start this week I will bring more heirloom tomato plants. You will have a choice between several different varieties, such as Yellow Pear, Carbon and Brandywine. All of these varieties can be grown in a garden bed or a semi large planter on your patio.
If you have any questions or would like to share how you have been enjoying your CSA share feel free to contact me via email or social media. I am always happy to chat about the fascinating world of veggies.
I can’t wait to see everyone this Friday!
