Open For the Season

Welcome to the 2022 CSA season! I am so excited that spring is finally here and it is time to start our second season as Dirty Knees Farm. This past winter was spent making plans and improving the farm so that this year will be even better than the last. There are so many different veggies, herbs and flowers in the works for this year and I am so excited to share them with you!

The stars of the first bouquets are daffodils! Specifically classic King Alfred and Ice Follies, both varieties have a lovely honey scent and are some of the first flowers of spring. King Alfred daffodils are the quintessential daffodil, with big bright yellow flowers they seem to bring sunshine with them wherever they are. Ice Follies are a more open daffodil with a slightly ruffled cup and delicate white outer petals that give them their name.

This week’s salad greens are a personal favorite of mine, arugula microgreens! Microgreens are salad greens and herbs that are harvested before the larger true leave grow. This gives them a bright fresh flavor and delicate texture that sets them apart from other types of salad greens. Arugula especially has a wonderful nutty and ever so slight spicy flavor that i love to put on everything from breakfast sandwiches, packed lunches or as a side salad to any meal.

As the season progresses there will be many different types of salad greens, fragrant flowers and all kinds of tasty additions. I will update the blog every Wednesday evening, so keep an eye out so you know all the happenings here at the farm.

See you on Friday!
