Is It Spring Yet?

New England weather has a habit of doing whatever it feels like. One day it might be 60 degrees and sunny, the next it’s 30 degrees and there is 6” of snow outside when you get up in the morning. Even though the temperature has been more like a yo-yo then anything else the farm is showing signs of spring already! So many of the perennial flowers and herbs we grow such as daffodils, globe allium, oregano, and lavender are starting to show signs of life. I love to walk the property this time of year and find each new sprout like a treasure hunt.

In the greenhouse seeding is off to the races! Over the course of the last week we have seeded over thirty trays of hardy greens, spring flowers, and the first veggies of the year. Some of the veggies and flowers we have been seeding are arugula, spinach, swiss chard, kale, and violas. I get so excited for the coming season just going through the seeds and thinking about all the delicious and beautiful crops we will be growing this year.

Even though seeding has been the main focus this week there have been other projects going on to get ready for the 2022 season. This is the time of year I sit down with my overly large graph paper pad and draw the maps we will use this season. These maps serve as a guide to show where each crop needs to be planted, what spacing is used and when it will be planted. I also use these maps as a reference in the following years to make sure the crops are rotated each season so the soil can rest, and so that pests don’t become a huge issue.

Last but far from least, CSA shares are ready for sale! In the “join now” section of this website you will find three different options this season.

Greens and Blooms: This CSA starts the first week of April and last for six quick weeks. Every week you will get a bouquet of spring flowers, salad mix, and a specialty add-in for your salad

Full Season Share: The Full season CSA starts the last week of May and goes for twenty weeks. In this CSA share option you will receive the full rage of what we grow including seasonal favorites such as heirloom tomatoes, aromatic basil, summer bouquets, and so much more

Half Share: The half share will receive all the same bounty as the full share but pick ups are every other week instead of every Friday. Since all of our produce is harvested the day before you pick it up it has a long shelf life and stays fresh and tasty for you to enjoy.

I am so excited for this season to get rolling!
