At Long Last
This week it has finally warmed up enough that the tomatoes are starting to roll out! Right now the cherry tomatoes are just beginning, and I am in love with how sweet and flavorful they are. Since they are just starting out this week you will be getting a “ tomato cone”, this is a very cute paper cone filled with a mix of heirloom cherry tomatoes. In the coming weeks as the plants gather steam there will be even more tomatoes in all their shapes, colors, and flavors!
To accompany your tasty tomatoes this week you have to option of Thai basil or Citrus basil. Thai basil sports pretty purple stems and an anis like flavor. It lends it’s self to stir fry, salad dressings, and adventurous parings like strawberries! Citrus basil has a bright flavor that is reminiscent of lime and lemon. This makes it the perfect herb to add to fresh salsa, fish dishes, and refreshing summer drinks.
This week we are also going to experiment with a new option, the extra bin. Sometimes I have vegetables that are not quite up to my normal standers or are not producing quite enough to split evenly to all of the CSA shares, this is where the idea of the extra bin comes into play. The extra bin will be somewhere where I can put this kind of produce and any share member can take what they would like in addition to their normal CSA share.
This year has had many experiments, lessons and hiccups. I am incredibly blessed and grateful that all of you have joined me on this amazing ride and I can’t wait for the rest of the season and into the next!
See you all on Friday!
